What is a psychoeducational/neuropsychological evaluation?

The goal is to identify strengths and weaknesses to enhance everyone’s ability to help the child be as successful as possible. Based on the evaluation, individualized recommendations are provided and can be shared with your child’s support team.

How do I know if my child would benefit from an assessment?

  • Does your child consistently study hard but their results don’t reflect their efforts?
  • Does your child frequently want to avoid school or school-related activities?
  • Have you been told that your child should be evaluated for ADHD?
  • Does your child take longer to learn new skills?
  • Do you have a family history of ADHD or learning concerns?
  • Do you have to repeat instructions over and over again to get your child to complete a task?
  • Is your child clearly smart but, has trouble remembering or completing assignments?
  • Does your child have difficulty sitting still or remaining on one task?
  • Does your child’s teacher express concerns with your child’s attention, behavior, or learning?
  • Does your child have any behavioral or emotional problems related to school or home?
  • Does your child perform well in most subjects, but has one or two that they consistently have trouble with?
  • Do you think your child needs school accommodations?
  • Does your child appear frustrated during school or when learning?
  • Are you interested in knowing strategies to enhance your child’s learning and academic performance?
  • Would you like to know your child’s cognitive/intellectual abilities?
  • Are you concerned that your child is performing below other kids their age?
  • Does your child avoid reading or reading aloud?

Timing is IMPORTANT

The EARLIER your child receives an evaluation, the earlier insights can be used to help ensure that your child develops to their full potential. Children who continue to struggle academically can become overwhelmed by school demands, leading to avoidance of schoolwork, disengaging during class, and falling further behind. This can also impact self-esteem and emotional/behavioral well-being. Long term academic difficulties without appropriate accommodations can lead to long-term disinterest in school or learning altogether. Your child receiving an evaluation allows parents, teachers, coaches, and other supporters to understand how to help your child reach their full potential.
