What is a psychoeducational evaluation?

A psychoeducational evaluation is a comprehensive assessment that helps us understand how your child learns, thinks, feels, and functions—at school, at home, and in social situations.

We assess a wide range of areas that may affect your child’s development and day-to-day success, including:

  • Cognitive abilities (IQ)

  • Academic skills (reading, writing, math)

  • Attention and executive functioning

  • Memory, processing speed, and visual-motor integration

  • Emotional and behavioral functioning

  • Social skills and peer relationships

  • Developmental, medical, and family history

The goal is to identify both your child’s strengths and the areas where they may need more support—so you, your child’s school team, and other providers can work together to help them succeed academically, socially, and emotionally.

You’ll receive a detailed, easy-to-understand report with individualized recommendations. We’re also available to consult with schools, therapists, and other team members to make sure your child’s needs are clearly understood and supported.

Signs Your Child May Benefit from a Psychoeducational Evaluation or ADHD Testing

School Avoidance & Emotional Struggles

  • Tries to avoid school or school-related activities

  • Shows signs of anxiety or frustration related to learning

  • Displays emotional or behavioral challenges at school or home

  • Has had a teacher or provider express concern about attention, learning, or behavior

  • You’re wondering if your child may benefit from school accommodations or an IEP/504 plan

Timing is IMPORTANT

The EARLIER your child receives an evaluation, the earlier insights can be used to help ensure that your child develops to their full potential. Children who continue to struggle academically can become overwhelmed by school demands, leading to avoidance of schoolwork, disengaging during class, and falling further behind. This can also impact self-esteem and emotional/behavioral well-being. Long term academic difficulties without appropriate accommodations can lead to long-term disinterest in school or learning altogether. Your child receiving an evaluation allows parents, teachers, coaches, and other supporters to understand how to help your child reach their full potential.
